Changing molding suppliers doesn’t always mean starting over with new tooling. Midwest Precision Molding can evaluate your existing molds, identify needed repairs or modifications, establish a stable molding process, and transition qualified tooling into production.
Whether you are facing quality issues, capacity constraints, rising costs, poor supplier performance, or reshoring production, our team can help make the transfer process as smooth as possible.
Our Mold Transfer Process
1. Tooling & Program Review
We review available information such as part drawings, mold specifications, resin requirements, production volumes, approved samples, and current process information.
2. Mold & Equipment Compatibility
Our team evaluates mold size, shot requirements, tonnage, cooling, electrical connections, ejection, hot runners, and other equipment needs.
3. Mold Inspection
Once the mold arrives, we inspect its overall condition and identify any maintenance, repair, or modification needs before sampling.
4. In-House Tooling Support
Our experienced in-house tool room can support mold maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and modifications, helping reduce delays during the transfer process.
5. Sampling & Process Development
The mold is sampled in an appropriate press, and our team works to establish a repeatable process that meets your quality and production requirements.
6. Approval & Production
Once the parts and process are approved, the mold can move into regular production at Midwest Precision Molding.
Why Transfer Your Tooling?
Companies transfer molds for many reasons, including:
